Vivo Xplay 5 Elite with whopping 6GB of RAM, Xplay 5 with 4GB RAM announced Posted: 02 Mar 2016 10:02 AM PST At an event in China, Vivo announced two new smartphones, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite with 6GB of RAM and dual edge display, and the Vivo Xplay 5 with 4GB of RAM and dual edge display.As expected, Vivo finally unveiled its Xplay 5 Elite and Xplay 5 smartphones at an event in China. The Xplay Elite is one of world's first smartphone to come equipped with a whopping 6GB of RAM. The key talking points of both smartphones is the metal unibody construction and the dual-edge display just like Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge. While both smartphones come with the same design, the Xplay 5 is the slightly affordable variant with a few key differences.Vivo Xplay 5 Elite specifications and features: The metal clad smartphone flaunts a 5.43-inch Super AMOLED QHD display running at 1440x2560pixels and covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection to keep scratches at bay. Under the hood is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Unfortunately, there is no microSD card slot for further expansion. While one would question whether a smartphone really needs 6GB of RAM or not, it will be important to see how Vivo manages to make the best use of the memory.On the camera front, the Xplay 5 Elite is equipped with Sony's IMX298 16-megapixel rear snapper with LED flash and phase detection auto-focus (PDAF). Up front, there is an 8-megapixel front facing camera for selfies and video calls. With 3,600mAh battery and support for dual SIM 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Hi-Fi 3.0 (2*ES9028+OPA1612), it also sports a fingerprint scanner on the back. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop wrapped under Funtouch launcher with split-screen multitasking support. In China, it is priced at CNY 4,288, which roughly translates to Rs 44,500. At the moment, there is no word on availability in other regions.Vivo Xplay 5 specifications and features: It is a relatively affordable variant of the Xplay 5 Elite. While the Xplay 5 retains the design, 5.43-inch QHD display, onboard storage and camera setup, there are a few key differences in the hardware that goes under the hood. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 652 octa-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. The Hi-Fi audio chip configuration is also a bit different CS4395+AD45257. The Xplay 5 is priced at CNY 3,698, which roughly translates to Rs 38,400.
