WD are the Western Digital Hard drives. Hard drives are the most important part of your personal computer or laptop that stores all the data. I guess, we don't need to waste time on telling about the basic things of the hard drives as many of you might be knowing it. For the sake of simplicity there are differentiated in the colors to identify the sub brands as per there specification.

There is Blue color wd hdd which is mostly used for Normal usage, the Black wd hdd is for admirer user, the Green wd hdd is for used specially for Power saving and the Red & Red pro is for 24x7 usage. There is also a Purple and gold color type. Purple and Purple NV for surveillance and Gold for Data Centres. Data centres HDD gives more reliability but they are more expensive then consumer products like discussed before. So Let us comparison based on some important factors between these WD Black vs WD Blue SSHD vs WD Red vs WD Red Pro HDD.

Test Benchmarks - HD Tune Pro by "DIGIT"

Read & Write Speed

You would have noticed that for read test the drives with higher RPM & cache are more ahead of remaining drives with lesser. While the WD Blue does not shows much  increment in the read speed. For Write test the picture looks quite similar. The WD Black, performs much faster than the rest. Again, the WD Red seems to do better than the other 7200 RPM drive with burst write speeds.

Random Access Read & Write

For Random access read the results are quite different WD Blue SSHD is performing better than the rest drives at Random reads across varying file sizes. The bigger the file size, more better the performance.
For Random access write again the results are surprising. The WD Red drive showed huge spikes in access times which isn't a good thing for any drive. Even the other 5400 RPM drives.

What You can Conclude?

The WD Black performed all over better than rest, can be a best first choice. After the Black, the Red pro performed consistently well and was only second to the WD Black. While the WD Red was quite good but could not matched with the first two due to it's lower RPM and cache size memory. All four has it's own advantage either in the form of speed or hybrid design. Given the fact that the SSDs are more affordable the the WD Black.
